Our Companions

Hand-picked. Hospital-trained. Background-verified.

Every person we send to your parent's home comes through a structured selection and training process before we ever assign them to a family. Here is exactly what that means.

How we select

A five-stage process, the same one every time.

We hire slowly and disciplined: one role at a time, through word-of-mouth from existing companions. Every applicant goes through the same stages.

01

Application & references

Two professional references, one personal. We call all three. We look for adults with prior care, hospitality, or healthcare-adjacent experience.

02

In-person interview

A 90-minute conversation with our operations lead. We assess composure, language fluency, and how candidates speak about elders.

03

Background & police verification

Independent third-party verification. Address, identity, criminal record, employment history. No exceptions.

04

Structured training

Multi-week in-person training. Hospital protocol, patient communication, emergency response, documentation, and live shadow visits.

05

Probation & mentorship

First visits are paired with a senior companion. Family feedback is reviewed before independent assignment.

Training

Structured training before your parent's first visit.

Our program is designed with input from Kochi-based geriatric and hospital-nursing professionals, refreshed regularly, and re-certified for every active companion.

It isn't theoretical. Every trainee shadows real visits with a senior companion before being assigned independently.

Hospital protocol & navigation
Check-in, OPD navigation, billing, pharmacy, discharge procedures across partner hospitals in Kochi.
Patient communication for elders
How to listen, when to speak for, when to step back. Communicating with patients who have hearing loss, mild cognitive decline, or anxiety.
Emergency response & escalation
Identifying medical emergencies, hospital staff escalation, family notification protocol, basic first response.
Documentation & reporting
Structured visit summaries, prescription capture, follow-up tracking. What to flag, and how.
Family communication on WhatsApp
Tone, cadence, what to say when nothing is happening, what to say when something is.
Shadow visits (live)
Paired visits with a senior companion before independent assignment. Reviewed visit-by-visit.

Equally important

What our companions are not.

We're disciplined about what we do, which means we're equally disciplined about what we don't. Companions are excellent at one thing. They will not be asked to do anything else.

Not a nurse or medical professional.
Companions do not administer medication, take vitals, or give medical advice. They support, document, and communicate. The medical staff do everything else.
Not a live-in caregiver.
Presenza is per-visit. We're not a substitute for a full-time caregiver, attendant, or nursing service. For those, we're happy to recommend partners.
Not a errand-runner.
Companions stay focused on the visit. They will pick up prescriptions and reports as part of the visit, but they're not a personal assistant for unrelated tasks.
Not a family substitute.
We never present ourselves as the family. The patient knows who we are. The doctor knows who we are. Trust is built on clarity, not blur.
